The Iranian chanteuse Googoosh was a singing superstar in the Shah's Western-friendly Iran during the 1970s until the Islamic Revolution of 1979 cracked down on hedonistic entertainment and forbade women from singing in public. After many years through the Ayatollah's regime, Googoosh has been able to perform and tour again, though visa complications recently stopped her from returning to America. Her concerts include traditional Persian music, ballads of longing and heartbreak, and even the popular theme song from 'Divorce,' a 1970s Iranian soap opera.
