With six years at London?s World Cancer Research Fund, Matt Cooke visits the Apple Store to discuss the realities of designing for the non-profit sector. He makes a strong case for user-centered design methodologies, which promote accountability, enhance creativity, and help organizations deliver more socially responsible materials. He encourages a move away from the traditional preoccupation with formal design elements towards greater focus on the recipient of the design and on the objectives and context of communication.
Bio:

Matt CookeBesides Working at London?s World Cancer Research Fund for six years ? where he held the position of Head of Education and Communication ? Matt Cooke also has over ten years? experience designing, writing, and editing for the arts, both in the non-profit and commercial sectors. His user-centered design and work theories have been published in Europe and North America and have received awards from the British Medical Association. Cooke holds a bachelor?s degree in Communication Studies and a master?s degree in Typo/Graphic Design from the London College of Printing. He is the founder of Matt Cooke Design and is also a partner and associate creative director at Iron Creative in San Francisco. He teaches Typography in the New Media program at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
