May 29 is Planting Day! Part of the Goochland Farmers Market’s mission is to educate consumers and one way we do that is by having activities for children. We are happy to be hosting four Kids Days this year. As stated by Lisa Dearden, Executive Director of the Center for Rural Culture, “Kids Days embody the reason why the Center for Rural Culture started the organization, as well as the Goochland Farmers Market. We wanted to have a way to pass down to future generations the history, stories, the music and the rich traditions that make life in our agricultural community so wonderful. We also wanted to ensure that land was kept in agricultural use for our children’s children’s children, which is the very definition of sustainability. Having children bring what they have grown or made themselves to the market and plugging them into our wonderful rural community early in life provides them with important and meaningful life lessons. They are our future farmers and entrepreneurs and we should all help to cultivate their wonderful skills and talents!” Our first Kids Day of the season is Saturday, May 29 from 8 am until noon. Kids Days are the last Saturday of every month, May through August and each will have a theme. May 29 is Planting Day, June 26 is Physical Fitness Day, July 31 is Overall Day and August 28 is Recycling Day. At each Kids Day we have space for 15 kid vendors. This is a first come, first serve opportunity. Each vendor may only sell at three Kids Days. To find out more about being a vendor and to get an application please contact Stephanie Falconer at riverblue@comcast.net or 804-301-3890.
