Mendocino Art Center Presents "Golden Memories of Radio" Show
Mendocino, CA - The Bay Area Broadcast Legends "Old Time Radio Players" will return to Mendocino with an all-new nostalgic presentation of "Golden Memories of Radio," Monday, February 2, at 8:00 p.m., at the Mendocino Art Center's Helen Schoeni Theatre. The live performance will take the audience back to a time when "radio was king" and the "theatre of the mind" captured our imaginations.
The program, complete with live sound effects, will include episodes from "The Lone Ranger," "The Bickersons," "Stella Dallas," "Fibber Magee & Molly," and "Jack Armstrong – The All-American Boy." "The Old Time Radio Players" and technical crew, some of whom worked on the original 30's, 40's and 50's programs, will also re-create examples of vintage radio newscasts, kids' shows, daytime soap operas, nighttime dramas, comedy shows, bloopers, commercials, jingles and prime time greats.
The show is a benefit for the Mendocino Art Center and will be preceded by a delectable hors d'oeuvres reception at 5:30 p.m., held amid the creative, all-media artwork of the "Members' Juried Exhibit." At 6:00 p.m., a delicious homemade lasagna dinner will be served with salad, garlic bread, and 2006 Home Run Red table wine donated by Greenwood Ridge Vineyards, followed by Lucia Zacha's espresso and cream dessert.
The Broadcast Legends was founded in 1992 and currently boasts 220 members – radio and television professionals who have worked in the broadcast industry for at least twenty years. The group's mission is to "have fun with colleagues from the years when Broadcasting was fun!" That mission is accomplished through quarterly luncheon programs and other group activities.
"The Old Time Radio Players" serve as the Legends’ community outreach arm, bringing the fun and excitement of live radio to appreciative audiences throughout the Bay Area. The "Mendocino 2009" cast will include: Ken Ackerman, Bob Burrell, Bob Carson, Al Hart, Bruce Jenett, Fred LaCosse, Terry Lowry, Dan Odum, Dave Parker, Joan Parker, Duncan Robertson, Bob Safford and Ed Vasgersian. The crew will include live sound effects by Kim Connolly, Matt Elmore and Linda Odum.
The "Golden Memories of Radio" Benefit Dinner and Live Show is part of the Mendocino Art Center's 50th anniversary celebration, and is generously sponsored by the Stanford Inn by the Sea.
