Golden Globe Foreign-Language Nominee from France THE CONCERT (LE CONCERT), 2009, 119 min. Andrei Filipov (Aleksei Guskov), once the famed conductor of the Bolshoi orchestra, was humiliatingly fired under Brezhnev’s rule for keeping Jewish musicians in the company. Now, working as a lowly janitor in the very same building, he intercepts an invitation for the current Bolshoi orchestra to perform at the Châtelet Theater in Paris and seizes an opportunity to right the wrongs of the past for himself and his former musicians. Gathering the company together with the addition of a young violinist (Mélanie Laurent, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS), Andrei sets off on a heist to complete the Tchaikovsky concerto performance he has waited thirty years to finish.
