The Golden Gate Men’s Chorus (GGMC) begins its 29th season under the direction of Music Director, Joseph Piazza with the holiday concerts, “’Tis the Season—On Yoolis Night.” The men of GGMC will raise their voices in festive cheer to the music of Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and modern masters. On Yoolis Night will resound with brass choir, organ, and voices, featuring such compelling works as Heinrich Schütz' Magnificat and Daniel Pinkham's Christmas Cantata.

This time of year often calls us to reflection and remembrance. No music evokes such experiences of inner joy and peaceful contemplation as the compositions of Renaissance masters Jean Mouton and Philip Verdelot or contemporary composer Morten Lauridsen in his setting of O Magnum Mysterium, featured in this program. This concert promises to capture the spirit of Christmas from its ancient traditions in Medieval song to joyful, modern arrangements of traditional carols by groups such as Eclipse and Rockappella. After listening to the glorious, shimmering timbre of the Golden Gate Men's Chorus, we will invite you to join us in our traditional Christmas sing-a-long.

Allow us to wish you all the joy of the season with our holiday candlelight and our arrangement of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Who knows, we may even have a special visitor on this special evening called "Yoolis Night!"

In the “Classical Voice” Jason Serinus says, "Quality is a given when it comes to the Golden Gate Men's Chorus. (The chorus) ... has such a high degree of musical proficiency among its members that the GGMC frequently tackles challenging repertoire that other community choruses tend to avoid." (5/11/09).
