Canadian post-rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor (GY!BE), which originated in Montreal in 1994, took a hiatus in 2003 and has reconvened for a tour that will bring them through New York City in March. The group is known for its film loops, which are projected behind the musicians during performances. GY!BE – the unusual band name comes from a 1976 Japanese documentary by director Mitsuo Yanagimachi – is known for allowing audiences to record its performances.
