Join us for a step back to 18th century Venice and the Baroque music of Antonio Vivaldi. Featuring the LA Canada Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir and Orchestra this concert presents Vivaldi’s little-known, but exquisite “Magnificat” and his well-known and favorite “Gloria”. Featured soloists for these works include Lori Stinson, soprano, Diane Wallace, alto, and Matthew Thomas, tenor. The concert also includes another Vivaldi favorite “Concerto for Two Trumpets and Orchestra” featuring Raymond Burkhart and Kevin Brown as the bravura trumpet soloists. The concert will be directed by Jack Lantz, Director of Music & Worship Arts at La Canada Presbyterian Church.
This concert also introduces LCPC’s new harpsichord, built by a team of church members, led by Dwight Tudor and decorated by Nancy Freeman. Kemp Smeal will perform Vivaldi solo harpsichord works to demonstrate the instrument’s colors and capabilities, as well as use the harpsichord in the orchestra for all of the music on the concert.
A special touch: each movement of the music will be accompanied by projections of the great art of the most famous painters of Renaissance Venice and Florence. The artworks enhance the musical experience in adding a visual dimension to the live music, in what Ovations is calling a “4-D experience”.
Prior to the concert, at 3 p.m. in the Worship Arts Center, Matthew Thomas will present a pre-performance lecture on the context of Antonio Vivaldi’s music in early 18th century Venice.
Tickets are $15, available in advance by calling Lori MacDonald at 626- the church office at 818-790-6708 or at the door. Please come and bring a friend for a special afternoon of great music and art.
