BOSTON - Check your preconceptions at the door and experience the powerful performance of “GIMP” where dance and disability are beautifully entwined.
This awe-inspiring dance performance produced by ALLIGER ARTS includes eight performers, four disabled and four non-disabled, shattering the notion that dancers are perfectly unflawed beings, and that beautiful dancers cannot be disabled.
The two performances, beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25, will be at Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, 100 Northern Avenue, Boston, Mass. Tickets are $25 for reserved seating, and $20 for members, students, and seniors.
VSA arts of Massachusetts is a local nonprofit helping to make the performance of “GIMP” accessible to everybody, providing American Sign Language interpretation for audience members whom are Deaf or hard of hearing as well as an audio description of the performance provided via headset for the blind.
This program is presented as part of VSA arts of Massachusetts’ Inclusive by Design program using a multi-sensory approach to performing arts to enhance the experience for everyone. By partnering with schools, universities, community theaters, museums, and large and small cultural organizations, VSA arts of Massachusetts is involving people with disabilities into the cultural life of their communities.
