Gift of Jazz Winter Class Performances March 19, 2013

The students of the Gift of Jazz winter courses are proud to present their graduation concert at Dazzle on Tuesday, March 19, at 7 PM. The concert will be hosted by the instructor for these courses: professional pianist, composer, and educator Marc Sabatella. Tickets are $10 and you are encouraged to buy them online.

The theme to this series of courses is Modal Jazz, a phrase that encompasses the music of Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue", John Coltrane's "A Love Surpeme", Herbie Hancock's "Maiden Voyage", Wayne Shorter's "Speak No Evil", and much more. In addition to performances by the Gift of Jazz ensemble and improvisation students, a professional ensemble will be premiering original pieces by the composition students.

The composition students are Kay Ueno, David Land, Charlie Vavra, Gayle Mace, Darren Jacobson, and Troy Medina.

The professional ensemble that will perform the composition students' pieces will consist of Tim Libby (trumpet), Jeff Miguel (saxophone), Marc Sabatella (piano), Ian Hutchison (bass), and Alejandro Castaño (drums).
