Tom Alter as Munshi Har Gopal Taftah in Ghalib Ke Khat
Ghalib Ke Khat is Pierrot’s Troupe’s relatively new production. With this, the troupe becomes a proud and distinctive producer of three plays on Mirza Ghalib. The other two being – 1) the much celebrated Ghalib & 2) the country’s longest running comedy Ghalib in New Delhi
Ghalib Ke Khat is a dramatic presentation of personal letters that the great poet and Ghalib wrote to his friends, disciples, relatives and even government authorities. .
But, what is “so unique” about the play? Or, what is “so incisive” about this production that the Pierrot’s ones are always characterized for?
Well! This time around, one will not see Ghalib but his friends, disciples, his wife (Umrao Begum) and even his maid (Wafadar) reading and reviewing his letters, istead. The play, thus introduces, very very important people around Ghalib, including his wife and his favorite disciple Munshi Har Gopal Taftah, a great and but long forgotten poet of Persian (Played by Tom Alter).
This play is not at all a plain recitation of Ghalib’s letters. It, instead, provides a unique insight into his life, life styles and times from the viewpoints of his near and dear ones.
