As part of our ongoing season of events on the politics of climate change, we are delighted to announce that Greg Barker MP, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, will join us to speak on the new UK government's approach to climate change internationally and in particular towards the United States. You are cordially invited to join us for this special event and participate in the discussion.
Mr Barker will set out his views on the prospects for passing comprehensive US climate and energy legislation and will discuss what more Britain and the international community can do to encourage the US to take on more ambitious action to tackle climate change. The ensuing discussion will ask whether US action matters unless it can be scaled up beyond the pledge made in Copenhagen and, if senate legislation fails to materialise, whether a new political strategy on climate change is needed.
The following speakers will be joining Mr Barker on the panel:
* Michael Schellenberger, President and co-founder of the Breakthrough Institute
* Alex Evans, Non-Resident Fellow at Center for International Cooperation, New York University
* Matthew Lockwood, Associate Director and Head of Climate Change, ippr (chair)
