Three University of Oregon in Portland programs will co-sponsor a literary evening featuring Oregon Poet Laureate Paulann Petersen and poet and journalist Don Colburn on Tuesday, October 19, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. “Getting the News from Poems: Poetry and Journalism in Conversation” brings the two poets together to talk about poetry, prose and the news. Both writers will read selections from their work and respond to questions from the audience. Al Stavitsky, associate dean and director of the School of Journalism and Communication Turnbull Center, will serve as moderator.

Current and past UO students, faculty and staff are invited to join members of the community at the University of Oregon Portland White Stag Block event space at 70 NW Couch Street for this evening of food, culture and company. Co-sponsored by the George S. Turnbull Center, University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication, University of Oregon Portland Library and Learning Commons, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Oregon, and Literary Arts, the event is open to the public and offered free of charge.

Paulann Petersen’s appearance is made possible by the Oregon Poet Laureate program, a collaborative project of the state’s five cultural partners: Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon Humanities, Oregon Heritage Commission, Oregon Historical Society, and State Historic Preservation Office with funding from the Oregon Cultural Trust.
