This exciting and adventurous eco-cruise series offers a fun, safe and convenient opportunity for New Yorker and visitors to explore and re-discover the hidden waterways that are ecologically significant to our urban estuary. The tours are held aboard The Urban Divers unique 32ft giant family size canoe that is historically and culturally significant. This type of vessel was typically used by local indigenous peoples of the region, as well as other seafarers, who thrived on the natural resources of this once vital estuary. Each eco-cruise is guided by our experience and enthusiastic environmntal educators that offer a fresh perspective on the history and ecology about the waterway explored, as well as investigate the cost of human impact and engage discussions about remediation. The vessel will accommodate 21 paddlers at time. Our program is aimed at recapturing our coastal community's inherent cultural relationship to the water, while putting a little nature back in the urban environment.
Tours run on weekends beginning in May through October each year. Getting on board are by suggested donation, and with advance registration. To register and receive a calendar of our eco-cruise destinations and schedule, call 718-802-9874, or 718-901-3331, or send an email with name and contact information to getonthewaternyc@gmail.com.
