Like his critically acclaimed debut novel Etta, Gerald Kolpan’s new novel "Magic Words: The Tale of a Jewish-Boy Interpreter, The World’s Most Estimable Magician, A Murderous Harlot, and America’s Greatest Indian Chief" takes the reader on a rollicking adventure based in historical fact. Set in 1867 the story centers on two young men: Julius Meyer, a Jewish immigrant with an incredible ear for language and his cousin Alexander Hermann, who is destined to become the world’s greatest magician. Their story takes them across two continents, crossing paths with prostitutes, outlaws, and Indian chiefs.
Gerald Kolpan spent 20 years as an Emmy award winning features reporter for WXTF-TV Fox 29 in Philadelphia and was also a frequent contributor to NPR’s All Things Considered.
