Silver Halide to Pixels 1905-2005
Celebrating 100 Years in George Eastman’s House.
One hundred years ago George Eastman completed construction of his National Historic Landmark house and gardens and celebrated with a housewarming party in October 1905. George Eastman House will mark this 100th anniversary with a recreation of Mr. Eastman’s festivities, from the menu and music to fireworks in the garden. The Centennial Ball will take place 8 p.m. to midnight at George Eastman House, 900 East Ave. Tickets to the black-tie ball are $125, and include a savories and dessert reception as well as valet parking. The Centennial Ball is being organized by the Eastman House Council, with all proceeds benefiting George Eastman House. Entertainment at the ball will follow closely to Mr. Eastman’s music for the night, including selections performed by an a cappella group, the University of Rochester Yellow Jackets. Additional activities will include dancing in the Conservatory, with live music from the Johnny Matt Band and John Nyerges Jazz Quartet, and a silent auction, as well as a live auction featuring photographic works from artists such as Jeff Bridges, Robert ParkeHarrison, and Candice Bergen. The Centennial Ball celebrates the evolution of Mr. Eastman’s home into the world’s foremost museum of photography and film.
