Geology of Sabino Canyon December 5, 2010

Bob Scarborough will show you our old friend Sabino through new eyes. We will look for evidence of the 1887 earthquake, recent and ancient debris flows, study pegmatite veins with large garnets and the Catalina Gneiss. We will also view an alluvail fan that suggests that our canyon had at one time been completely buried and has since been exhumed. We will walk up the paved road 3 1/2 miles, and once at the top, any who wish to do so will be able to take the tram back, but there is a tram fee of $8.
