Geoff Dyer returns to fiction for the first time in 11 years, exploring ideas around travel, love and work in his novel Jeff in Venice, Death in Varanasi. Jeff Atman, a journalist, falls under the spell of Laura, whom he meets at the Venice Biennale. On another assignment in Varanasi, the holy Hindu city, a different kind of transformation takes place. Geoff Dyer has previously written about jazz, DH Lawrence and photography.
