Evocatively lush, this month's Opening Moves concert explores the theme of "Generations" with an eclectic program featuring dance, music and spoken word performances by outstanding imaginative artists. Eastern, Western, and off-the-map genres converge and cross lines: a child's smile deep as wrinkles navigates ancestor hall . . .

--Known for its authentic collection of cultural dances of the Silk Road, Gulistan Dance Theater heads in a new direction as it travels "In the Shadow of the Caravan." This four-part suite infuses tradition with imagination and innovation-- creating a curious concoction.

--Third generation Los Angeleno poet journalist historian Mike Sonksen (aka Mike the Poet) "sings the flatlands and the mean streets."

--Choreographer Liz Hoefner Adamis and composer Yorgos Adamis, who recently returned from native Greece, perform a collaborative work.

--Butoh artist Don McLeod reconfigures the topography of generation gaps in a "voiceless primal drama" danced to improvised music by Open Gate Theater.
