In October 1999, Jorn Utzon accepted the then Premier Bob Carr's offer to return to the Sydney Opera House, but instead of completing his original vision, Utzon was engaged in a series of projects under the heading of generational change. It looked like the fairy tale had at last achieved a happy ending. Philip Drew will review these changes in the context of history, Utzon's vision and design principles.
