Idaho’s largest solar-powered summer music, history and arts festival will return once again to the Old Idaho Penitentiary in Boise on June 11, 2011! Headlining this years’ Gem State Jam is national touring band Delta Spirit, fresh off a tremendous start to the year with an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live along with summer plays at High Sierra and Coachella Music Festivals. Returning from last years’ GSJ is Johnny Cash tribute band, Cash’d Out, who performed many of the singer’s hits, reviving the icon’s memorable play at Folsom Prison in 1968. Also playing are Bustler Blue, Jonathan Warren and the Billy Goats, Old Death Whisper, Lige Williamson and Rumblefish, among others.

More than just a music festival, the Gem State Jam’s intention is to reinforce community artistic strength and exemplify what it means to be a large-scale sustainable event in these times. In collaboration with Sustainable Waves Staging, the Jam will feature two solar-powered stages for non-stop music throughout the day as well as provide information on bike rides and public transportation to help reduce the festival’s carbon footprint. We’ll also feature artists from Boise’s Artist in Residency Program, and regional vendors/independent artists will be invited to showcase their work alongside live art demonstrations.

As a state historic site, these festival grounds are like no other and a definite must-see! The Old Idaho State Penitentiary will open its gates to all ages and will be family friendly (kids under 5 are free!). Penitentiary exhibits and as well as the museum will be open all day with helpful guides to answer questions and show you the amazing grounds.
