Large commercial aircrafts, fighter planes and UAV rely on gas turbine to power the aircrafts. As gas turbine plays a critical role in civilian and military aircrafts, there is a constant need to understand more into its design, performance and maintenance.
The appreciation of the design of gas turbine is important, as it gives insight into how various components affect the performance of the aircraft. Often, many engineers are not given the opportunity to appreciate the physics and electronics behind gas turbine. It is important for engineers to recognise that each component of gas turbine will affect its performance. This is due to its challenges of high operating temperatures, mechanical and vibration stress, complex electronic and mechanical design.
By understanding the principles behind engines, engineers will be more perceptive towards the potential hazard of external factors, testing and evaluation of engine prior to installments, constraints on design characteristics and others.
