Join the GSO as it moves through the seasons with the classics! The GSO will be performing Copland’s Appalachian Spring, Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 in Bb Major (“Spring”), and Vivaldi’s “Spring (La primavera)” from The Four Seasons featuring violin soloist Victor Rupert.
Mr. Rupert began his classical music studies at the age of eight in Chicago. Some of Mr. Rupert’s early training involved performing as a chamber orchestra and small chamber ensemble musician. He began playing professionally in the Shreveport Symphony when he was fourteen. He also made his debut with orchestra performing Bach’s A minor violin concerto. While at North Texas, Mr. Rupert continued his Orchestra career and was Concertmaster of the North Texas Symphony under the baton of Anshel Brusilow. While there he toured the United States and Europe. He performed at Lincoln Center and for the King of Spain. While in Spain, he performed for the internationally televised opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Also, while attending North Texas, Mr. Rupert was a winner of the concerto competition where he performed the Lalo Symphony Espagnole with the North Texas Orchestra.
Mr. Rupert continues his love for chamber music and has toured with quartets from New York to Alaska. He still performs regularly and is the Artistic Director and Founder of Chamber Music Unlimited, a non-profit music organization. He is also the Headmaster of Strings Unlimited where Mr. Rupert maintains a large studio of young violinists.
The GSO will also feature guest conductor Richard Giangiulio. In April 2006, Richard Giangiulio was named the Conductor & Music Director of the Allen Philharmonic. During the 2008-2009 Dallas Symphony Season, Mr. Giangiulio was the cover conductor for the Family, Pops, and Parks concert series.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mr. Giangiulio holds degrees in Music from the Curtis Institute of Music and Juilliard. He attended the Conservatoire de Paris as a Fulbright Scholar, where he studied under the tutelage of Maurice Andre. After serving as principal trumpet in the Philadelphia chamber Orchestra, Giangiulio became the principal trumpet for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Giangiulio retired from the DSO after 32 years as principal and co-principal trumpet. From 1977 to 1982, Mr. Giangiulio was the assistant conductor for educational concerts with the DSO.
