Garin Park’s Carden Lane Opens to ‘Ukraina’ June 26, 2012

The East Bay Regional Park District will open the Carden Lane Entrance (near the crest of Walpert Ridge) of Garin Regional Park with a ribbon-cutting celebration, followed by a naturalist-led hike from 6-7:30 p.m. to ‘Ukraina’, a California State Landmark located on the property which contains the gravesites of Agapius and Albina Honcharenko. Fr. Agapius Honcharenko, a humanitarian and champion for human rights, was an Orthodox priest born in Ukraine who came to the Hayward hills in 1873.
