Alex has been the University Librarian at the University of Technology, Sydney since 2000. The UTS Library is highly regarded for its innovative use of IT to extend the digital library. It launched UTSePress in January 2004, which is one of the leading electronic presses in Australia. He previously chaired IFLA’s University Libraries Section and was President of the Council of Australian University Librarians. Alex’s broad expertise in information policy has been demonstrated through many government and sectoral appointments to educational, library and information technology committees and boards as well as his authorship of submissions to inquiries and many publications. His publications are primarily in information management, community empowerment and human rights, with particular regard to freedom of expression and access to information.
