Science Saturday. Want to get more fungi out of life? Find out how on a scenic mushroom hunt with Chicago Botanic Garden’s Soil Ecologist, Dr. Louise Egerton-Warburton, a mycologist specializing in the research and study of mushrooms. Through her research, she has learned that mushrooms are the ecological “canaries in the coal mine” and are important indicators of an ecosystem’s health. You’ll learn the basics of fungal ecology and collect specimens in the beautiful woods of the Garden. Then move to the plant science lab and use microscopes to examine the fungi more closely and evaluate your findings. Ages 12 and up. This is an outdoor walking tour and workshop (3 hours).
