A woman is found wandering in Chicago, her feet swollen and blistered. Doctors recognize this as a symptom of the "fugue" state of amnesia, where the victim is running away from an unbearable memory. The young psychiatrist treating her is running from his own demons as well, terrified that by making her remember, he'll be repeating his own mistake.
