Opening its doors again after a year of rebuilding, BOX is proud to present Front & Center; a group collaboration of performance art in Miami. The exhibition showcases a range of young artists who utilize performance as a relevant form of art practice. Front & Center attempts to highlight performance as a vital component of contemporary art today, as well as bring a locally under-represented medium to the cultural forefront of the city.
The concept behind Front & Center is an experiment in itself. In similar fashion to the happenings of the late 60's and early 70's, BOX is interested in presenting the audience with multiple performers engaging in their actions simultaneously. The lack of tangible product, and the lasting effects of the performance on the viewer are tested in this inaugural opening exhibit set to run through January. The group of artists selected for this show will act together to create a dynamic environment where the viewer is thrust unarguably into being an active participant. Central to this show is the energy of the atmosphere created by these performances, which will take place in a community space. Each artist will feed off the next. Artists will be asked to perform in a very demanding and charged space. Viewers will have to find their place to interact, much like social environments, with the performance they choose to relate with. The performer/viewer relationship will take center stage in this exciting and unique exhibition.
