"From the Superorganism to the Gaia Hypothesis: A Brief History of Organicism in Ecology from the Early Twentieth to the Early Twenty-First Century": A talk with J. Baird Callicott September 25, 2008

Professor J. Baird Callicott will discuss the evolution of ecology, from the development of Tansley and Lindeman's ecosystem paradigm to the later twentieth-century prevalence of Gleason's individualistic paradigm, ending with a consideration of the twenty-first century assertion of a transorganismic functionally integrated entity, the Earth or Gaia. J. Baird Callicott is Regents Professor of Philosophy at the University of North Texas.
