Williamsburg Regional Library presents the world premier of "From The Sea To The Sky" by Rainbow Puppet Productions. The free production will be presented Saturday, December 9 at 11 a.m. in the Williamsburg Library Theater, 515 Scotland Street. For more information call the Youth Services department at (757) 259-4055.
The puppet production tells the story of the Virginia Peninsula from 1607 when Captain Christopher Newport and John Smith set sail from England searching for riches and adventure, to the area's role in putting men on the Moon. From Pocahontas and Powhatan who first encounter the settlers taking over their ancestral lands, to the colonists' struggle for survival, the story moves from Jamestown to Williamsburg and the Revolutionary War. History continues to unfold with the Civil War, the Battles at Big Bethel and between the Monitor and Merrimack, and the story of the contraband slaves. The Peninsula's contributions to the arts and sciences are presented through jazz greats Ella Fitzgerald and Pearl Bailey, and the NASA Langley Research Center that helps America land on the moon and explore the universe.
"From The Sea To The Sky" was developed with a grant from the York County Arts Commission and the Williamsburg Area Arts Commission as part of the Jamestown 2007 Commemoration of America's 400th Birthday.
