The best of the gritty 1960s British New Wave films. Newcomer Finney is brilliant as a non-conforming angry young man who forever alters the lives of the women around him. Adapted from the novel by its author, Alan Sillitoe, the film garnered 7 awards and is listed in the top 20 best British films of all time.
RACHEL, RACHEL 1968 dir. Paul Newman with Joanne Woodward, James Olsen
Sensitively directed by her husband in his directorial debut, Woodward's portrayal of the emotional awakening of a spinster schoolteacher won international acclaim. Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress. Adapted from Margaret Laurence's Canadian classic, A Jest of God.
