"From Here to Eternity" (1953) December 6, 2003

James Jones' novel about Army life in pre-war Hawaii, finely rendered, with a memorable performance by Montgomery Clift. An interesting portrait of interwar culture. The evolution of the Army as an organization is easy to see. Frank Sinatra appears. His is the role alluded to in the beginning of The Godfather.
