Art-At-Lunch Lecture (FREE)
Topic: From Early Anxiety to a New Found Empathy: George Tooker's Humanism
Location: The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts
Date: 2/11/09
Time: Noon-1:00pm

Description: In conjunction with PAFA’s current exhibition George Tooker: A Retrospective, come hear Marshall Price, Associate Curator at the National Academy of Design and one of the organizers of the Tooker exhibition. Price reflects on the trajectory of Tooker’s body of work, charting his progression from a disconcerting visual language that was a larger reflection of cultural anxiety in the 1940s and 1950s to a more compassionate outlook on humanity in the 1960s.

The Art-at-Lunch series of talks on American art and culture take place every Wednesday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Bring your lunch or purchase it in the Academy Café and enjoy discussions and lectures with scholars and artists covering a variety of topics related to the PAFA’s exhibitions, collections, and areas of interest.

Art-at-Lunch is free to the public. For more information, contact PAFA at 215-972-2069 or visit our website: www.pafa.org/418.
