The earliest Chinese eateries in New York catered strictly to the needs of Chinatown's turn-of-the-century "bachelor society." Over time, however, Chinatown's restaurant industry would would reflect the neighborhood's changing immigrant population and needs. Through present-day and historical food-related sites, this themed walking tour will trace the evolution of Chinese American eateries and foodways in Chinatown, and highlight the ways in which these eateries have both reflected and shaped this community.
