Friends of The Seattle Public Library Fall Book Sale September 29, 2007

More than 250,000 books, CDs, DVDs, records, videos, sheet music, art prints and posters will sell for bargain prices at the 2007 Friends of The Seattle Public Library Fall Book Sale, scheduled for Sept. 28-30.

Paperbacks will sell for 50 cents and oversized paperbacks will sell for 75 cents. Most hardback books will sell for $1. There will be a section of "better books" priced separately. On Sunday, most items will sell for half-price.

This widely anticipated event is attended by families, the young and old, book-lovers, students, teachers, book store owners and bargain hunters, according to Joan Amatucci, book sale director.

"It is not unusual to see people buy scores of books at once, carting them out on something you would carry luggage on," she said. "They line up hours before the sale starts and when the doors open, they make a mad dash to various parts of the sale, piling large numbers of books into boxes."

This popular sale includes everything from books on art, history, hobbies, gardening, sports, humor, science, literature, business, computers, the Northwest, popular fiction and much, much more, she said. In addition, a large selection of children's books and large-print books will be offered.

Items for the sale are donated by private individuals, book stores and the Library. Proceeds benefit the Library.

Parking is free and plentiful at Warren G. Magnuson Park, but Amatucci recommended arriving early for the best buys.
