Friday Night Waltz April 16, 2010

Friday Night Waltz (also called FNW) is a high energy dance that features mainly waltzes in the dances and classes, along with other dances like polka, one step, swing, cha cha, Lindy, schottische, mazurka, merengue, samba, and tango. People are friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Attendance is between 130 and 190. Average age is about 30. People come from San Francisco, Berkeley, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, and Oakland.

Richard Powers teaches intermediate classes from 7 to 9 pm. Richard is assisted by Mirage Marrou. Richard Powers djs waltz and polka from 9 to 12.

7pm - A dozen different ways to finish both rotary waltz and cross-step waltz with flair, with dips and flourishes, spins and wraps, some borrowed from tango, salsa and even from disco.

8pm - A FNW Premiere: New Promenade and Skater's variations. These are similar to Shadow (Sweetheart) figures but with new handholds, parallel turns and transitions. Add easygoing variety to your waltzing while keeping up with the flow of traffic on the dance floor.

Tom Hill teaches an introductory waltz class from 7 to 9 pm . To get the most from this class, try to start at 7pm. Excellent first time class

$12 for both the classes and the dance. $8 dance only. $8 students. No partner necessary. All Ages. Casual comfortable attire. Under 18 must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
