Ariston Jacks considers himself a visual Griot (A Griot is a human library. A Griot is a storyteller. A Griot is a historian. In many African tribes a Griot is all of these things and more - a tangible link to the past, someone who not only could be touched, but could also touch you with stories and facts about who you were as a person).
Jacks narrates stories about the human condition, past and present, using various media to create his personal surfaces. Combining line, value, contrast and color, this rising artist delivers spiritual thoughts and feelings as he resolves the problems of visual composition.
As part of the exhibition Jacks spent two nights before the opening and created a piece that hangs on the back wall of the gallery:
