Freewheeling in the Docklands (Bike tour) June 24, 2007

London’s Docklands are steeped in history yet developing so fast they will be unrecognizable by the time the Olympics take place in 2012. Join this bike tour for a fun-packed and fascinating exploration of the area, taking in architectural, historical, environmental and contemporary sites related to themes of time and space, with the Museum’s Curator of Time-Keeping and Senior Education Officer.

From meridian lines, ship builders’ yards and the Woolwich ferry to Anthony Gormley’s Quantum Cloud, the Thames Barrier and Laura Williams’ Aluna tidal-powered moon clock, discover relics of the past and inspiration for the future. The Docklands are a fascinating and fast-changing place and there is no better way to discover them than on bikes and in the company of two highly knowledgeable and entertaining guides.

If you require bike hire, the London Bicycle Tour Company will provide free delivery and pick-up from the Museum. Rental is £18 for the day. Please state the National Maritime Museum as the delivery address.
