Free Night of Theatre 2006
Theatres Bay Area kicks off second annual event in Union Square
WHAT: Theatre Bay Area kicks off its Free Night of Theatre 2006 media launch event in San Francisco’s Union Square at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, October 3, 2006. The event will feature live theatrical performances along with remarks regarding the campaign. Following the event, Free Night of Theatre tickets may be reserved at the TIX booth in Union Square at 1:00 PM and on the tixbayarea.com website beginning at 6:00 PM.
Last year, Theatre Communications Group, the national theatre service organization, chose Theatre Bay Area as one of three nonprofit organizations to pilot the program to attract new audiences to the theatre by offering free tickets to new audience members. The overwhelming response and tremendous success has since then generated buzz throughout nationwide communities. As a result, the 2006 campaign has extended to 15 major US cities, including Seattle, Atlanta and Boston.
Free Night of Theatre 2006 is open to ticket holders on Thursday, October 19, 2006 in approximately 100 theatres throughout the Bay Area, including Sacramento and Santa Rosa.
WHY: The second annual Free Night of Theatre will again take the lead in reaching out to local audiences. The San Francisco Bay Area has more theatre companies per capita than any metropolitan area outside of New York. Yet, despite the affluent culture of theatrical arts in the Bay Area, many pass on the opportunity to experience the theatre due to the fear of high ticket costs. Theatre Bay Area has taken the initiative to challenge the notion by offering free tickets to new audience members.
