FIDEL STEPS ASIDE: His Legacy, Cuba's Future
A conversation with DAWN GABLE
Dawn is a freelance translator, writer, and member of the Santa Cruz Cuba Study Group. She has just returned from Cuba.
Nearly fifty years after the Cuban revolution—fifty years marked by unrelenting hostility toward the island nation by the world’s most powerful country, the U.S.—Fidel Castro is stepping away from the leadership of Cuba. His decades-long defiance of American policy-makers propelled him on to the world stage. Cuba under Castro, despite many problems and imperfections, has served as an inspiration to other developing countries that seek an independent course.
We will explore the legacy of one the most intriguing figures of our era and examine Cuba’s future fate, focusing especially on U.S.-Cuba relations, in a conversation with Dawn Gable.
The program will be broadcast and webcast live on Mid-Peninsula Community Media Cable Channel 27 and rebroadcast throughout March as part of the ongoing Other Voices television series produced by Peninsula Peace and Justice Center. As always, you are an important part of the conversation. Come with your questions and comments and be a part of the studio audience. Watching from home or on the internet?
