MARCH POINT follows three boys’ journey on their path from childhood to adulthood as they come to understand themselves, their tribe, and a growing environmental threat to their people. MARCH POINT screens for free at SIFF Cinema at Seattle Center on Saturday, November 15, 2008 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (doors at 3:30 PM).
The film will be followed by a discussion featuring the producer of MARCH POINT, Tracy Rector. Ms. Rector is Executive director of Longhouse Media whose Native Lens program made MARCH POINT possible. She will be joined by other local organizations working to give youth a voice in media.
Travis, Nick and Cody have been friends almost all their lives, growing up on the Swinomish Reservation near Anacortes, Washington. When they find themselves in trouble with drugs and alcohol, the teens are offered an opportunity to participate in Native Lens, a filmmaking program of Longhouse Media. Figuring it’s better than spending afternoons in drug court; they envision a film with car crashes and rap music. Instead, they are asked to make a documentary about the impact of two oil refineries on their tribal community.
