Helen Roy is a tribal member of the Wikwemikong First Nations Band, Canada’s only Unceded Indian Reservation on Manitoulin Island in the province of Ontario. Helen is a survivor of the Indian residential (boarding) school system. Though Native language was prohibited at all residential schools, she has fortunately been able to maintain Ojibwe as her first language. Recently Helen and a friend, David Fuhst, guitarist extraordinaire, released their first CD, “Pop Songs Anishinaabe’amaadeg” in August of 2005. In late 2006 they completed a second album of popular songs entitled “Anishinaabe Nagamowinan.”
