A free concert sponsored by the Laman Library in North Little Rock featuring the guitar work of Ken Bonfield and Steve Davison. Both artists perform original music with an emphasis on contemporary fingerstyle guitar.
There's a sense of energized peace in Ken Bonfield's instrumental guitar artistry. What distinguishes Ken's music in this genre are his melodies -- inspired by significant events in his life and his love of nature.
Bonfield's musical inspirations range from Bach to rock. “I use Celtic ideas to express awe; I use bluegrass forms to express joy; rock and blues to create a sense of tension or humor; and classical structure to create depth and a sense of melancholy. The only common denominator is the guitar itself.” Bonfield's music has been featured on NPR and PBS.
You can hear all of these influences on his newest album, American Baroque: Steel String Surprise, his most stylistically diverse CD to date.
.
Little Rock’s own Steve Davison performs original compositions on the 6 and 12 string guitar from his Winter 2004 release “Of Woods and Water.” Davison’s eclectic fingerstyle playing ranges from bluesy 12 string tunes to
classically influenced compositions evoking haunting melodies and evocative coloring.
Much of his material is influenced and dedicated to the natural beauty of his beloved home...Arkansas.. He has played at Acoustic Sounds Café, Riverfest and is a 3 time finalist and one time winner of the Arkansas Acoustic Music Festival at the University of Central Arkansas.
