Free clinical breast exams January 11, 2008

Community Hospital Anderson offers free clinical breast exams once a month for women in Madison County. Jeanne Kirk, R.N., breast health specialist, will perform the next exams on Friday, January 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Women’s Center.

Clinical breast exams are different than mammograms, and should be done every three years in women ages 20-39, and every year for women over 40. All women over the age of 20 should perform self-breast exams monthly. Women over the age of 40 should have a screening mammogram done once a year.

If abnormality is detected, the patient will be referred to her physician. The women without a physician will be referred to health care providers who are accepting new patients.

Register by calling 298-5139. Upcoming dates for free clinical breast exams in 2008 include Feb. 8, March 14, April 11, May 9, June 13, July 11, Aug. 8, Sept. 12, Oct. 10, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.
