Freddie White is widely regarded as perhaps the finest guitar player and interpreter of a song that Ireland has ever produced. Born into a house full of music – classical, jazz, and popular songs of the day – his music contains elements of all these and a healthy drop of edgy irreverence.
Freddie’s live performances are nothing short of legendary and songs by his favourite writers such as Randy Newman, Tom Waits, John Hiatt and Guy Clark as well as his own fine compositions combine to create an evening that will remain long the under the skin.
His tenth and latest album, ‘Stormy Lullaby, is a stunning collection of tracks in which Freddie’s musicianship and voice shine through. He has once again teamed up with highly acclaimed engineer DanDan Fitzgerald (Mary Black ‘No Frontiers’) to produce this gem. The album has an acoustic feel thanks to the input of a small, tight group of musicians from his native Cork.
‘Stormy Lullaby’ showcases what Freddie does best – that is ‘inhabit’ and deliver heartrending, troubled love songs, guaranteed to stop you in your tracks. Freddie does not merely ‘cover’ great songs, more often than not he improves on the originals, taking them to a deeper, darker - or if needed, lighter and brighter place.
