“Freak Out” is the theme for the 14th Annual Trick or Treat Festival for Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Orange County Market Place in Costa Mesa and includes a bubbling cauldron of freakish fun.
Kids in costume can get a pre-Halloween Night fix with daytime trick or treating from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the vast Market Place with merchants and various stops along the way offering an abundance of goodies to keep their sweet tooth satisfied. The first 500 kids also receive a FREE gift.
What Freaks You Out?
Show us in the I Scream for Ice Cream Contest at Noon presented by Farrell’sÒ Ice Cream Parlour Restaurants and win a $50 Farrell’s Zoo Party for first place, $30 worth of Farrell’s Ice Cream for second place and $10 worth for third place. A Come as Your Favorite Freak Costume Contest ( ages 13 years and older) will be at 1:30 p.m. where contestants show their creativity, showmanship and attempt to freak out the audience to win Monster High Collectibles.
Scream and Costume Contest hosted by “The Art of Schmoozing” author and Sideshow Comedic Magician, Aye Jaye. Trophies also awarded in both contests.
FreakShow Deluxe, Winner of the 2010 Hollywood Fringe Festival’s Award for Best Cabaret/Circus, will take center stage with three carnival style sideshow performances including fire eating, bed of nails, ladder of machetes, glass eating and much more at 11 a.m. , 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
“Farmer” Mike Valladao, world renown pumpkin sculptor, is sure to make your eyes pop out as he transforms 400 lb plus Atlantic Giants into 3-d characters including the “Wolfman.”
Things get even freakier with the annual Hearse Show and Procession which features more than 50 vintage, restored and classic hearses, funeral coaches, ambulances and limousines taking to the streets of Costa Mesa in a two mile cortege at 10 a.m. with FreakShow Deluxe’s Minister of Macabre, Reverend Tommy Gunn, as the Grand Marshal in the lead hearse. The procession returns to the Market Place at approx. 10:30 a.m. for a Grand Entrance with a kasket kar and coffin go-kart leading the way. All remain on display during the Festival til 4 p.m.
Also featured are the Circus Side Show Freak Stilt Walkers (bearded lady, tattooed lady, strong man and ballerina), Checkerboard Man strolling vaudevillian comedy and magic, the Ultimate Schizophrenic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, kid’s costume parade, Ukulady and Velevetina Evilwich Sing Along and Swivel for Sweets Halloween Hula Hooping and Sing for Sweets Halloween Karaoke hosted by Magic Castle Magician Steven Williamson.
Free face painting and ghoulish balloon creations from the Looney Balloony Witch will be available, along with Free Swazzle Puppetry’s Interactive Halloween Puppet Shows: “Monster Mash Up” at 10:30 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.
In its 42nd year, the Orange County Market Place is held every Saturday and Sunday at the O.C. Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa and features nearly 1,000 merchants offering a variety of products and services. Hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $2 and free for kids 12 and under.
