Last summer many individuals and organizations were invited to participate in the first annual Frank C. Denzinger Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship banquet to benefit an educational scholarship in Frank's name at Indiana University Southeast. We humbly request your presence at the second annual Denzinger banquet. Last year, Rev. Bob Russell delivered a timely and inspiring speech. This year, our guest speaker will be Melissa "Missy" Jenkins Smith. Missy was one of the students who were tragically shot by Michael Carneal at the Heath High School shooting in Paducah, Kentucky. Since the day of that shooting twelve years ago, Missy has found strength in forgiving Carneal. She now works as a school counselor and speaks to various groups on school violence and bullying.

The host for this year's banquet is Rachel Platt, news anchor for WHAS 11 news. Missy will deliver a brief speech followed by an author forum event with Rachel Platt. Missy's story is inspiring as she forgave the boy who shot her, accepted her condition of paralysis and persevered with life.

The Frank C. Denzinger Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship Committee has successfully established a scholarship in Frank's name at Indiana University Southeast. That fund is currently endowed with nearly $30,000 due to the generosity of family, friends and friends of law enforcement officers in Southern Indiana.

Our tables are quickly filling up at the Indiana University Southeast Hoosier Room for this event on August 19th, beginning at 5:30 p.m. If you wish to reserve an 8-person table for this event, please make your check or money order payable to the Indiana University Foundation with an annotation in the notes that this is for the Denzinger Scholarship. The check may be mailed then to: IU Southeast, Attn: Director of Development, 4201 Grant Line Road, New Albany, IN 47150. 8-person tables will range in price from $1500 to $750 for corporate seating, $500 for government agencies, FOP lodges, churches, schools and non-profit organizations, and $50 for individual seating.

Biographical Info
Age: 32

Officer Frank Denzinger was shot and killed when he and another officer responded to a domestic disturbance call.

The officers responded to a report of a confrontation between a mother and her son in the 6000 block of Rachel Court in Georgetown at about 1830 hours. Upon their arrival, while they were conversing with the mother in the driveway, her 15-year-old son ambushed both officers from an upstairs window of the residence.

The suspect, who was using a high-powered, World War II relic M-1 Garand rifle, struck Officer Denzinger with a second round between the side panels of his bullet-resistant vest, before the other officer was able to return fire into the home.

Officer Denzinger was transported to University Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, where he succumbed to his wounds. The other officer was seriously wounded, but survived.

The suspect was found six hours later inside the residence having committed suicide.

Officer Denzinger had served with the Floyd County Sheriff's Office for four years. He is survived by his wife, daughter, parents and two sisters.
