The current global credit crisis is unprecedented in its far-reaching scope. Such momentous change has not occurred for decades, and the cascade of financial trouble has devastated many world economies. Despite this, Stuart Varney offers a positive take on the economy. “America, and only America,” he says, “has the flexibility and confidence to lead the world out of the crisis and come out stronger than ever.”
A London School of Economics-trained economist, Varney joined the Fox Business Network as an anchor in October 2007. Formerly the host of CNBC’s The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board with Stuart Varney and co-host of CNN’s MoneyLine News Hour, Varney also contributed to a variety of Fox shows, including Your World with Neil Cavuto, Bulls & Bears, and Forbes on Fox. Varney joined CNN upon its founding in 1980, and hosted both its Business Day and Business Asia broadcasts. His exceptional coverage and analysis of the stock market crash of 1987 earned him a Peabody Award for excellence in journalism.
Stuart Varney’s Speaker Series event is sponsored by the Sam and Irene Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend, the Student Activity Fee, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Harriet Behrend Ninow Memorial Lecture Series Fund. Also appearing in the Speaker Series this spring will be environmentalist Jean-Michel Cousteau on Tuesday, April 20.
