Four Mad Humours is a bi-national, interdisciplinary networked performance that links American and Canadian cities and performers in real-time.
It is choreographed, written and directed by Toronto-based pounds per square inch‘s artistic director Gerry Trentham who has devised four dance-theatre solo works that delve into questions about the nature of madness based on the Elizabethan Humours once thought to make up a human being: sanguine, choleric, melancholic and phlegmatic. Four Mad Humours features two solos performed live in each city. Audiences simultaneously in Montreal and Chicago see the live performances and experience the virtual performances fed live from the other city.
Linnea Swan in Phlegmatic (Shades of Blue) and Gerry Trentham in Choleric (In Yellow Scale) premiere their solos in Montreal. Simultaneously, Amy Taravella performs Sanguine (Degrees of Red) and James Morrow performs Melancholy (Measured in Green) in Chicago.
