Tom Wessels, author of Reading the Forested Landscape: A Natural History of New England, has just published a new book, Forest Forensics: A Field Guide to Reading the Forested Landscape, based on the original book. Join Tom for this program that takes natural history from the species level to the landscape level. Learn how to read the history of a woodland by looking for clues to past disturbances such as agriculture, logging, fire, or blowdowns. It is a process similar to solving a murder mystery, but instead of asking "who did it?", the question becomes "what happened here?" We will begin indoors with a slide presentation, have lunch, and then head out on the property with Tom to see the landscape with new eyes. Copies of his books will be available for sale and autographing. - - Note: You may register for the slide-lecture only (9:30-11:00 am) for a fee of $10/member, $12/nonmember. Registration is required. Call 978-887-9264 for details. See http://www.massaudubon.org/catalog/listing.php?program_code=1226-IP10FA2 for more information.
